 Person charged with orchestrating attempt against Babchenko remanded in pre-trial custody for 60 days. VIDEO&PHOTOS

On May 31, the Shevchenkivskyi district court of Kyiv held bail hearing of Borys Herman suspected of masterminding assassination attempt against Russian writer and war correspondent Arkady Babchenko.

As reported by a correspondent for Censor.NET from the courtroom, Herman faces charges under part 1 of article 14, part 3 of article 27, and part 3 of Article 258 of the Criminal Code Ukraine (pursuing deliberate efforts to stage acts of terrorism; the use of weapons to undermine public security, terrorize the population in collusion with a group of people which resulted in a fatal casualty).

The court granted the prosecutor’s request by imposing a 60-day pretrial detention against the suspect without bail option.

Russian writer and war correspondent Arkady Babchenko reportedly died of gunshot wounds to the back after he was attacked entering his apartment in Kyiv’s Dniprovskyi district on May 29.

On May 30, it turned out that Babchenko was alive and unharmed while the SBU conducted successful special operation to detain those who plotted attempt against him.
