 Russian opposition journalist Babchenko gunned down in Kyiv

Journalist Aider Muzhdabaev says Russian opposition journalist Arkady Babchenko, who violently criticized Putin’s regime, was assassinated on the doorstep of his Kyiv apartment.

"Arkady Babchenko was shot in the back in his house. He was taken to a hospital. I’m trying to figure out to what exactly and when I do, I’m going to go there," Muzhdabaev wrote on social network, Censor.NET reports.

"Arkady Babchenko was murdered. [MP] Anton Herashchenko has just confirmed it," journalist Iryna Romaliiska reported.

Spokesperson for the Kyiv police Oksana Blyshchyk said: "A male was shot at in Kyiv. The victim died in an ambulance. The incident occurred on Mykisko-Slobidska Str. in the Dniprovskyi district of the city."

"Paramedics told the police that a woman called them and said that she had found her husband bleeding in the apartment. The victim succumbed to the injuries to the back, according to preliminary findings. The deceased was a Russian national born in 1977. He worked as a host on a TV channel," she reported.

"The incident took place in the Dniprovskyi district. His the wife was in the bathroom. She heard popping sounds, went out and saw her husband bleeding. She called the ambulance and he was taken away. He died on the way to the hospital. The crime scene team is working on the ground," Spokesperson for the National Police of Ukraine, Yaroslav Trakalo told Ukrainska Pravda.
