"Being scared by the launch of the Joint forces operation, the enemy stepped up attacks in all directions along the entire contact line. Headline grabbing reports have been telling about clashes and intense attacks including on civilians. The enemy perseveres in its attempts to force the units of King’s Brigade of the Armed Forces (24th separate mechanized brigade named after King Danylo Halytskyi - Ed.) out of the recently liberated village of Pivdenne (Chyhyri) which is situated within Ukraine’s area of responsibility.
"Up to 10-strong enemy subversive group was spotted on the southern outskirts of the village around 5 a.m. today, May 21. Brigade’s anti-sabotage unit moved up to intercept the subversive group, prevent its further advance, and fling the enemy back from the position of Ukrainian defenders. The enemy suffered significant losses in the clash and was forced to retreat under cover of heavy mortar shelling," JFO center said in the statement.
"Regrettably, two our companions-in-arms were killed in action. One of them was commander of the anti-sabotage unit Andrii Maslov. … Four soldiers received shrapnel wounds. They are now in a hospital where they receive professional medical care," the agency said.
