First Deputy Commander of the Joint Forces Operation Valerii Zaluzhnyi told a briefing in Kramatorsk that the infantry fighting vehicle was ambushed in the vicinity of Novoselivka village not far from occupied Horlivka while carrying out a combat mission to search and eliminate the enemy subversive group in the section of the frontline between the Joint Forces’ strong points.
"The enemy rigged a command detonated mine at one of the routes that our unit could take and open fire after triggering it. It was the decision made by the unit commander that saved lives of the rest of the detachment. Unfortunately, the IFV driver had actually zero chance to survive," Ukrinform quoted Zaluzhnyi as saying.
As the firefight started, the reinforcement arrived from the nearest strongpoint. According to the Chief of Staff, the enemy subversive and reconnaissance group retreated after a short slash. Three militants were eliminated in action while traces of blood found on the battlefield indicate that pother terrorists sustained injuries, Zaluzhnyi noted.
The IFV driver was killed in explosion while another soldier received injuries. One more serviceman was injured in the clash.
