SBU: Attack on Ukraine war veteran Verbych masterminded by Russian national who later fled to Poland

Operatives of the Security Service of Ukraine detained several individuals involved in attack on anti-terrorist operation veteran, the former defender of the Donetsk airport, Dmytro Verbych.

"The law enforcers collected evidence that a group of individuals attacked an anti-terrorist operation veteran, a defender of the Donetsk airport on May 2. More specifically, he received a stab wound. It was found that most of the attackers left for Kharkiv where, according to the SBU, they were detained by police officers," the SBU said in a statement, Censor.NET reports.

The special service operatives also found that the attack on the war veteran was organized by a Russian citizen who left Ukraine for Poland on May 4.

All persons involved in the attack have been identified. They will be brought to Kyiv for immediate investigative actions. The pretrial investigation is ongoing.

As reported, Verbych was attacked at 59/5 Kostiantynivska Street in Kyiv on May 2. He was stabbed in the lower back and sprayed with tear gas. The attackers tried to kill him with a hammer then.
