Speaker Parubii: president agrees that early parliamentary elections to destabilize Ukraine

Verkhovna Rada Chairman Andrii Parubii is convinced that no early parliamentary elections are looming over Ukraine.

"The talking and discussions about early elections have been held for as long as the Verkhovna Rada has been in existence ... There will be no early elections. Systemic, challenging tasks lay ahead," he said on air of the Right to Power show late on Thursday, Censor.NET reports citing Interfax-Ukraine.

He believes that the work of government and parliament paralyzed by early elections would render Ukraine’s defense capability a disservice.

Asked if he knows Ukrainian president’s opinion on early elections, the official said: "I know that the president of Ukraine shares my view, which I have just voiced, that early elections are a mean of destabilization and, most importantly, they will paralyze the country for a long period of time."

He believes that the aggressor state would most benefit from destabilization.

Parubii added that early elections are sought by some Ukrainian political forces "who would be happy to take advantage of this situation to address their narrowly defined political interests. The only thing I’d like to say without naming these forces is that they will fail in placing their personal interests above the national ones. Their under-the-carpet battles and attempts to unbalance the country will have no chance of success. This is my view as the Verkhovna Rada Chairman," he said.
