16 shopping malls, 18 schools, three hospitals all over Ukraine face closedown following fire safety inspection, - State Emergency Service

Ukraine’s State Emergency Service revealed more than 15,000 fire safety violations after inspecting 1,319 shopping centers, hospitals, and schools all across the country.

As reported by Censor.NET citing 112 Ukraine TV channel, State Emergency Service Chairman, Mykola Chechotkin, said at today’ government meeting.

"Since March 30, [fire safety] inspections have been underway in facilities which draw large crowds – shopping and leisure centers, school and preschool institutions, hospitals for inpatient care. More than 30,000 such facilities are subject to inspection including more than 4,000 shopping centers, almost 2,000 hospitals, and over 25,000 schools and kindergartens," the official said.

According to him, more than 2,300 employees of the State Emergency Service are involved in fire safety inspections.

"1,319 facilities have been checked as of today including 937 school and preschool institutions, 56 hospitals for inpatient care, 326 malls and leisure facilities," Chechotkin said.

Ukraine’s top rescuer stressed that the inspections revealed more than 15,000 violations, 5,000 of which had been halfway through for quite a while.

"The worst situation is in the Donetsk, Sumy and Ternopil regions, where more than 60 percent of the previously found violations were skipped. A total of 1,200 administrative penalties were imposed on managers of facilities for violation of fire safety requirements. Legal actions were initiated to shut down 37 facilities including 16 shopping malls, 18 school and preschool institutions, and three hospitals," he said.
