Ukraine invited to G7 foreign ministers’ meeting first time ever, Ukraine’s ambassador to Canada says

For the first time Ukraine’s foreign minister is invited to the meeting of G-7 FA ministers starting in Toronto on April 22.

Ambassador of Ukraine to Canada Andrii Shevchenko told Europeiska PravdaCensor.NET reports.

According to the diplomat, Ukraine is going to take part in a fully-fledged, scheduled event of the G-7 for the first time ever.

The ambassador confirmed that Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin received an invitation to attend the meeting from his colleague – Canada’s Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland.

"The time has come to take serious, strategic decisions on Ukraine and Russia and how to turn the world towards peace and international agenda. We are glad that Ukraine will be able to join the uneasy but vital conversation. We expect to make a valuable contribution to future joint decisions," the diplomat said.

Shevchenko noted that Ukraine is grateful to Canada as the country presiding in G7 for this initiative.

"This invitation demonstrates common desire of all our friends from the G-7," the ambassador added.

According to Shevchenko, Ukraine expects this conversation to be followed up at the upcoming summit of G7 leaders which will be held in the Canadian region of Charlevoi in June.
