“I refuted not existence of probe but versions, motives,” – NABU chief acknowledges wiretapping SAP head

Chief of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) Artem Sytnyk acknowledged cooperation between his agency and the Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) in the probe against Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAP) Head Nazar Kholodnytskyi.

He told journalists Thursday after a discussion in the Finance Ministry, Censor.NET reports citing Ukrainska Pravda.

According to Sytnyk, he did not previously deny probe against the SAP head.

"If you check my statements, [you shall see that] I did not deny the fact of the investigation. I refuted those versions of the motives and other [versions] that appeared in the media reports," Sytnyk said.

Asked whether NABU actually cooperates with the PGO department in this probe, Sytnyk recalled that "NABU has previously successfully cooperated with various PGO departments including this one."

NABU chief also said that he was unable to disclose more details in Kholodnytskyi probe because of the need to guarantee the secrecy of the ongoing investigation.

Sytnyk promised that NABU’s formal position on the case against SAP head will be made public soon.

Several news agencies earlier reported that Kholodnytskyi considered his resignation over alleged health issues. According to another opinion, possible resignation of SAP’s chief can be connected to the pressure exerted on him. Kholodnytskyi later said he had no intent to resign.
