 National Guard chief suspends commander of Kryvyi Rih-based military unit for communist flags used at recent parade

Ukraine’s National Guard Commander, Colonel-General Yuri Allerov, removed commander of the Kryvyi Rih-based military unit No. 3011 Colonel Viacheslav Melnyk.

Spokesperson for the National Guard Vadym Holub wrote on social media, Censor.NET reports.

"The National Guard of Ukraine continues carrying out internal investigation into the use of Soviet symbols by the members of the National Guard taking part in the celebration of the 74th anniversary of the liberation of Kryvyi Rih from German invaders. In the course of the investigation, Commander of the National Guard of Ukraine, Colonel-General Yuri Allerov, suspended commander of the military unit No. 3011 Colonel Viacheslav Melnyk," Holub said.

As reported, a group of National Guard servicemen carried red flags with communist symbols at the parade marking the 74th anniversary of the liberation of Kryvyi Rih from Nazis held on Feb. 22.
