Russia to pay immense compensation for Ukraine’s maritime rights violation, FM Klimkin says

Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin says Ukraine will receive considerable compensation for Russia’s violations of Ukraine's maritime rights in the Black Sea, the Sea of Azov and the Kerch Strait but the extent of compensation will be determined by the International Tribunal.

As reported by Censor.NET citing Interfax-Ukraine, the foreign minister Thursday said at a joint press conference with his Albanian counterpart Ditmir Bushati.

"We deliberately avoid voicing the amount because Russia goes on violating Ukraine’s rights. Therefore, Russia will pay the damages which extent will be determined by the court. ... The amount will be very significant. ... We are talking not about millions, dozens of millions or even hundreds of millions," Klimkin said.

According to him, the amount will be significant since it should reimburse the damages caused by violations of the rights of Ukraine in the Black Sea, the Sea of Azov, and the Kerch Strait.

"It will cover literally everything starting from the fact that we have been deprived of the opportunity to extract resources in our shelf area, explore our shelf, and exploit the living marine resources down to our cultural heritage," the diplomat explained.
