Elimination of Wagner mercenaries in Syria: CNN shows footage of U.S. airstrike. VIDEO

On Feb. 13, CNN showed footage of U.S. airstrike that killed mercenaries of the Russian private military company Vagner in Syria’s northern province of Deir Ez-Zor.

According to Conflict Intelligence Team (CIT), the footage shows destruction a T-72 main battle tank and a 122-mm M-30 self-propelled howitzer. The airstrike hit positions of President Bashar al-Assad’s regime forces in and near the village of Khsham, Censor.NET reports citing CNN.

The Russian Novaya Gazeta said that the U.S.-led coalition forces used AC-130 aircraft, AH-64 Apache helicopters, F-15 fighters and combat UAVs in the attack.

According to U.S. authorities, the airstrike killed about 100 Syrian government troops after they started shelling the headquarters of the Syrian democratic forces (SDF) prior to the planned large-scale offensive on the nearby oil fields guarded by the SDF.

Sources in the Pentagon told CBS that the Russian mercenaries were killed in the airstrike. The Conflict Intelligence Team explained that they were talking about the members of Vagner PMC that tried to assume control over deposits in the Euphrates valley.

U.S. Defense Secretary James Mattis said that according to the Russian headquarters there were allegedly no Russians there. However, The Washington Post reported that the Russian headquarters requested to cease fire to retrieve its soldiers killed and wounded in the air strike.

Bloomberg news agency found out that more than 200 regular troops were killed. Most of them were Russian nationals who also fought against Ukrainian government forces in the Donbas.
