Poroshenko approves resignation of Ukroboronprom CEO Romanov

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko signed a decree dismissing Ukroboronprom SC Director General Roman Romanov.

Romanov was removed from the office under the decree No. 26/2018, Censor.NET reports citing the press service of the president.

The senior official reportedly announced his decision to leave his post late on Monday.

On Dec. 27, 2017, Prime Minister Volodymyr Hroisman initiated Romanov’s dismissal for failure to accomplish the government's instruction to repay salary arrears to the employees of the state-run Mykolaiv Shipyard.

In turn, Romanov refused to resign voluntarily arguing that debt repayment required the government to make qualitative decisions rather than look for scapegoats. According to him, the arrears accumulated after the government had cut off funding of maintenance of the unfinished Ukraina cruiser back in February 2015 while numerous requests of the State Concern to the Cabinet to address this issue remained unanswered. Romanov said the repayment of the debt at the expense of the State Concern was unlawful.
