Former US Attorney Boersch withdraws her candidacy for post of NABU auditor, MP Yehor Soboliev says

Martha Ann Boersch, the former Attorney at Law at the United States Attorney's Office who prosecuted Ukraine’s ex-Prime Minister Pavlo Lazarenko, withdrew her candidacy for the post of the independent auditor of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU).

"Martha Ann Boersch who was U.S. federal prosecutor in the case against Lazarenko asked not to consider her for the post of the auditor of the Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine. I received the relevant e-mail from her last night," Samopomich faction MP Yehor Soboliev wrote on social media, Censor.NET reports.

According to the lawmaker, Boersch says that she would have the time and opportunity to do this job if the appointment took place last year but her current commitments do not allow her to take such a responsibility.

"Let me remind you that last year, when I still chaired the parliamentary anti-corruption committee, we selected Boersch as Verkhovna Rada’s candidacy for the post of the auditor to the NABU. Another candidate we proposed to the parliament was Spanish Public Prosecutor Carlos Castresana who headed the International Commission against Impunity in Guatemala established by the UN. This Commission sentenced this country’s corrupt president and half of MP’s. But the president [of Ukraine] and the majority of the Verkhovna Rada members seek to appoint the NABU auditor whom they will be able to control," Soboliev said.
