MP Semenchenko says lawmakers to be forced to sack Poroshenko after Donbas war veterans besiege Rada

Samopomich faction MP Semen Semenchenko says the Ukrainian nation has to assume power and dismiss Ukraine’s President Petro Poroshenko since the authorities fail to perform their obligations.

As reported by Censor.NET citing Gordon news outlet, speaking at a Sunday rally on Yevropeiska Ploshcha in downtown Kyiv, the lawmaker said that the Ukrainian law enforcers had soured on the government and would not support President Petro Poroshenko if a large number of people took the streets.

"They - the military, the National Guard, and the police - realize that they stand here until hundreds of thousands of people take to the streets. When the people revolt, I, as a member of the Ukrainian parliament, will personally support Poroshenko's resignation," he said.

The lawmaker noted that those MPs who still "have conscience and honor" would uphold the president’s resignation.

"The rest will do it as well because the Verkhovna Rada will be placed under protection of the veterans in a legitimate constitutional way while hundreds of thousands of people will protect it from the oligarchs. I’m talking about completely legitimate developments, because when the authorities fail to perform their obligations to defend the country, the Ukrainian nation has the duty and right to assume power. And we will definitely do this," Semenchenko stressed.

He added that the veterans should create a "defense force" that would assist the army if President Vladimir Putin of Russia "decides to give a helping hand to his crony Petro [Poroshenko]."

"We must prevent the oligarchs and officials from getting away with their loot. No airport, no railroad station must let these people flee the country. And above all, we must protect these individuals from provocations," the MP stressed.

According to Semenchenko, it is critical "to do everything in a peaceful way" while the people "will later decide who should rule the country."

As reported, the supporters of Mikheil Saakashvili and Rukh Novykh Syl party he heads held the March for the Future in the heart of Kyiv on Feb. 4. demanding resignation of Poroshenko. Part of the activists later held a rally outside Poroshenko’s house in the village of Kozyn in Kyiv’s larger area. According to the police, both rallies were held in a peaceful and orderly manner.
