PMC Vagner member Zalichev involved in Donbas operations in 2014 identified as Russia's two-time champion in tactical shooting

Russia's two-time champion in tactical shooting Alexander Zalichev took part in combat operations against Ukrainian government forces in the Russian-occupied Donbas in 2014 as a marksman.

As reported by Censor.NET citing Interfax-Ukraine, SBU Secretariat Chief Ihor Huskov said that Zalichev was a mercenary of the Russian-based Vagner Private Military Company.

"We have repeatedly informed the public about the activities of the special operations unit of the Russian Federation known as Vagner PMC. We reported that we had obtained personal data of almost 2,000 mercenaries. Our efforts revealed new facts of impudent attitude of Russia's secret services and individuals to Ukraine," he said on air of Priamyi TV channel.

Acording to the SBU official, one of Vagner PMC mercenaries turned out to be Alexander Zalichev who served as a sniper in the Donbas: "The open source investigation revealed that he was a two-time champion of Russia and a member of Russia's national team in tactical shooting at least in 2014-2016," he said.

Huskov said the SBU had drafted a letter to Ukraine’s Minister of Youth and Sports Ihor Zhdanov requesting to inform the sports federations of the partner countries about Zalichev’s involvement in combat operations against Ukrainian troops.

As reported, Chief of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) Vasyl Hrytsak told in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine in late December 2017 that the agency continued making efforts to identify members of Vagner PMC involved in war crimes on the territory of Ukraine and other states. "We have identified more than 2,000 members of the PMC," he said.
