Poroshenko submits candidatures to replace CEC members

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko signed nomination of new members of the Central Election Commission (CEC) while meeting with Parliament Speaker Andrii Parubii.

As reported by Censor.NET citing the president's press office, the head of state also dismised the CEC members as their term in office had expired.

“We launch the process of renewing the CEC composition today,” the president said.

He stressed that the renewal of the CEC had been discussed long ago. According to him, the factions have been discussing it for a long time, but the process of selection has been dragged out.

“I am glad that all the factions have finally submitted the applications that meet all the criteria. I have included them in the nomination,” the president said. He recalled that the main criterion was the new composition of the CEC.

The head of state noted that he had discussed the given issue with the NGOs that also welcomed the renewal of the CEC.

“I am sure that we bear common responsibility for the proper holding of both presidential and parliamentary elections. I hope that after the necessary procedures and special verifications, the parliament will be able to put the given issue to vote as soon as possible and help form the new composition of the CEC,” he said.

Parubiy called the nomination of the new members by the president a very positive step.

“I will immediately instruct to verify the nominations. According to the legislation, it will last up to 15 days, so that we reach a positive decision in February,” he said.

According to Parubii, “this decision is critical for the public and for our international partners.”
