Ukrainian Army reports one soldier killed as Donbas militants violated truce six times in past day, - ATO HQ

The Russian-occupation troops were actively trying to invite retaliation of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the anti-terrorist operation (ATO) zone until approximately 6:30 p.m. yesterday. No cease-fire violations were recorded since that time until the end of the day.

Censor.NET reports citing the update by the ATO headquarters press center as of Jan. 22, 2018.

“Blatantly violating the Minsk agreements, the enemy employed mortars of various calibers not only against the Ukrainian troops’ positions yesterday, but also against a front-line village occupied by the Russian mercenaries themselves.

“In Luhansk direction, the enemy bombarded the ATO forces’ strong points in the vicinity of Troitske with 120-mm mortars. The invaders repeatedly blanketed defenses of the Ukrainian Armed Forces near Luhanske village with 120-mm, 82-mm mortars and grenade launchers.

“The militants shelled positions near Novotroitske in the Donetsk direction with 82-mm mortars. However, they bombarded not only the Ukrainian forces’ strong points there, but also the infrastructure facilities of nearby Dokuchaivsk, the town which is temporarily beyond control of the Ukrainian government, in order to put blame for that strikes on the ATO forces.

"The enemy committed a total of six cease-fire violations over the past 24-hour period. Unfortunately, one Ukrainian serviceman was killed in the enemy mortar strike. We offer our condolences to the relatives and friends of the defender who gave up his life for Ukraine’s peaceful future," the situation report reads.
