Peskov’s statement not reservation but provocation – FM Klimkin on Putin-Poroshenko "clandestine meetings"

Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry called statement on alleged bilateral meetings of Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and President Vladimir Putin of Russia a provocation.

As reported by Censor.NET citing Liga.NET, Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin said that the presidents of Ukraine and Russia meet only during international talks held, for example, in the so-called Normandy format – with participation of the French and German leaders.

"I am unaware of any non-public meeting (between Poroshenko and Putin - Ed.). I believe this Peskov’s statement was not a reservation but a deliberate provocation," he told a press briefing.

Klimkin stressed that the Ukrainian and Russian leaders meet only during international negotiations, for example, in the Normandy format.

Earlier, some news outlets reported citing Peskov’s interview with Russia 1 TV channel that Putin and Poroshenko allegedly hold secretive meetings. The press office of the Ukrainian president strongly denied this statement.
