Ukraine takes action to freeze Gazprom’s overseas assets, deputy justice minister says

Ukraine’s Justice Ministry intends to hire legal advisers to the search and attach overseas assets of Russian Gazprom in February.

Deputy Justice Minister in charge of Bailiffs' Service Serhii Shkliar told Ukrainski NovynyCensor.NET reports.

"An auction for procurement of services of foreign advisors who will be figuring this out is scheduled for the next month. After that we will try to identify, expropriate and sell Gazprom's overseas assets and return the money to the state budget," he said.

Shkliar said that the search for Ukraine-based assets of the Russian company had been completed while no new assets that could be confiscated to the state budget had been found.

Earlier, Ukrainian Antimonopoly Committee instructed the State Bailiff Department to recover 172 billion hryvnia in fine and surcharge from Russian Gazprom for abuse of monopoly in the natural gas transit through Ukraine.

The Committee also assumes that Gazprom owns other movable or immovable property on the territory of Ukraine requesting that the assets and funds belonging to Gazprom be seized and their alienation prohibited.
