Georgia’s National Guard ex-Commander Kutateladze shot dead in his office, - local media

Brigadier General Samson Kutateladze, the former commander of the Georgian National Guard, was shot dead by an identified assailant in the city of Rustavi on Jan. 15.

As reported by Censor.NET citing Rustavi-2 TV channel, an unknown individual shot a 54-year-old brigadier general in his office located on the territory of the so-called ‘Istanbul’ market in Rustavi. According to Novosti-Gruzia, Kutateladze was the market co-owner.

The law enforcers initiated criminal case on two counts: premeditated murder and illegal possession of firearms, ammunition, explosives or explosive devices.

Kutateladze served in Georgian Armed Forces since 1991. He took part in the battles for the country’s territorial integrity in the South Ossetia and Abkhazia. He also took part in peacekeeping operations in Iraq.

Kutateladze was the National Guard commander from 2004 to 2006. He sat in the Parliament of Georgia on a United National Movement ticket from 2008 to 2012.
