Crime ring led by local Opposition Bloc member Kopiika apprehended in Mykolaiv, - prosecutor general

Ukraine’s Prosecutor General Yurii Lutsenko says the crime ring recently detained in Mykolayiv was headed by Ihor Kopiika, the deputy chairman of the Opposition Bloc faction in the Mykolaiv City Council.

Lutsenko wrote on social media, Censor.NET reports.

"The members of the criminal organization led by Deputy Chairman of the Opposition Block faction in the Mykolayiv City Council Ihor Kopiika were caught red-handed in Mykolayiv tonight. Kopiika’s son, aide, and two top managers of utility companies controlled by him were also members of the ring.

“The criminals were consistently embezzling public funds in 2016-2017. The ring members were caught in December 2017 while transferring 250,000 hryvnia in bribe to a prosecutor in attempt to conceal their criminal activities. The prosecutor had informed his leadership about the attempt to bribe him in advance. Five members of the crime ring are now in custody," Lutsenko said.
