No pressure exerted on Rossoshanskyi, confessions made voluntarily, MP Herashchenko says

Ukraine’s lawmaker Anton Herashchenko disclosed some details of probe into Iryna Nozdrovska’s murder.

"The prime suspect in the murder of Iryna Nozdrovska is Yurii Rossoshanskyi, the father of Dmytro Rossoshanskyi - the person who hit by a car and killed Iryna's sister Svitlana Sapatynska two years ago,” the MP wrote on social media, Censor.NET reports.

“Yurii Rossoshanskyi hated Iryna Nozdrovska’s guts. He hoped his son would be granted amnesty and released from jail early this year. However, Iryna’s efforts and determination hampered this as she sought maximum penalty for her sister’s killer.

“On that fateful day, late on Dec. 29, Yurii Rossoshanskyi and Iryna Nozdrovska accidentally met at a bus stop in Demydiv village. During a verbal confrontation between them, Yurii Rossoshanskyi took out a homemade knife and stabbed Iryna in the throat. Then he grabbed her lifeless body, put it on his shoulders and took away from the crime scene in order to throw it in a nearby river. If Iryna and Yurii did not meet at the bus stop on that fateful evening, Iryna would probably be still alive. But fate intended otherwise...

“No pressure was exerted on Yurii Rossoshanskyi. His confession was made voluntarily. Following his lawyers’ advice, he claimed in court that the police had put pressure on him. When he sobered up next morning, on Dec. 30, and realized that he had committed a terrible murder, Yurii even thought about committing suicide. And he might have actually committed it if the police officers did not detain him. Now he will have to bear responsibility for his actions to the fullest extent of the law. And the tragic fate of the two sisters Iryna and Svitlana who died at the hands of the father and son will always stay in Ukraine’s modern history as a chain of terrible coincidences."

On Jan. 1, 2018, journalist Volodymyr Tymofiichuk reported the body of Nozdrovska who went missing two days earlier found in the river on the outskirts of Demydiv village in the Vyshhorod district.

The police later confirmed that Nozdrovska was murdered. For two years the victim had sought punishment for a resident of Demydiv village Dmytro Rossoshanskyi charged with committing hit-and-run under influence in which Nozdrovska’s sister Svitlana Sapatynska was killed. Rossoshanskyi’s uncle chaired Vyshgorod district court at that time.

Obukhiv court sentenced Rossoshanskyi to seven years in prison following the trial that lasted more than two years. Rossoshanskyi’s lawyers nearly managed to set the criminal free under amnesty at the hearing in Kyiv-based Court of Appeals on Dec. 27. The appellate court ruled the court of first instance to review the case and left Rossoshanskyi in custody for 60 days.
