 Government to cover healthcare services provided to each separate patient in 2018, Health Minister Suprun says

Starting from 2018, specific medical services of various complexity received by the patients will be covered from the state budget.

Ukraine’s Health Minister Ulana Suprun told a briefing, Censor.NET reports citing Ukrinform.

"Starting from 2018, all the services will be provided free of charge at the primary stage, when each family chooses a doctor. All these services will be provided free of charge. Doctors in healthcare facilities will start providing medical services free of charge in 2019 while they will be covered by insurance funded from the citizens’ tax payments in 2020," Suprun said.

In 2018, the government will cover the basic package of services provided by family doctors, pediatricians, therapists under the new system. A new list of primary healthcare services has been approved along with new requirements for equipping primary healthcare facilities. This list of services typical for European countries includes consultations, appointments to visit doctors, periodic screening, and basic tests. The list of tests will gradually expand.

Suprun also reported that the government had approved 19 regulations concerning the implementation of different stages of medical reform including the provision on the establishment of the National Healthcare Service designed to manage payments for medical services. The document will come into force after the president signs the bill No. 6327. The timeframe for the reform implementation also depends on it. The competition for the post of the National Healthcare Service chief will be launched in early January while the agency shall be formed and fully operational by July.
