Ukraine applies for new EU macro-financial assistance, Ambassador Mingarelli says

Ukraine submitted an application to the European Commission to be included in the new macro-financial assistance program of the European Union.

As reported by Censor.NET citing Interfax-Ukraine, EU Ambassador to Ukraine Hugues Mingarelli Wednesday told a press conference at Oshchadbank.

According to him, the European Commission would assess the country's need in external funding and then decide whether the macro-financial assistance should be provided.

Mingarelli said that the issue will be tackled in the next several months.

If the positive decision is made, the European Commission would submit the relevant proposal to the European Parliament and the Council of Europe, he said.

Mingarelli also recalled that in the past three years the EU provided 3.4 billion euros in macro-financial assistance to Ukraine. By the end of this year a decision to issue the last tranche of 600 million euros under the current macrofinancial assistance program for Ukraine was to be made. However, the funds would not be provided, as Ukraine met only 17 out of 21 requirements of the program.
