NABU lawfully cooperated with FBI, - Sytnyk, Kholodnytskyi

Director of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) Artem Sytnyk and Special Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAP) Chief Nazar Kholodnytskyi insist that cooperation between Ukraine's anti-corruption bodies and members of the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation is in line with the international law and legislation of both countries.

As reported by Censor.NET referring to Radio Svoboda, the law enforcers said during the Global Forum on Asset Recovery taking place in Washington D.C.

"To be honest, it was very unpleasant to see our colleagues from the FBI just being suddenly taken a dig at. Both I and our colleagues from the U.S. FBI shared bad aftertaste after that. I think they are going to dryly explain what has happened, what kind of cooperation we have, and why this cooperation is fully in line with both the U.S. and Ukrainian legislation and the international law. Therefore, such hysterical allegations of the prosecutor general indicate that we are on the final stretch. It's a matter of political will whether we will reach the finish line or not," Sytnyk said.

SAP Chief Kholodnytskyi, who also travelled to the United States to attend the forum, said that cooperation of Ukrainian anti-corruption bodies met the norms of the memorandum on cooperation with the FBI.

"I cannot comment on the prosecutor general’s statement. I can confirm that NABU indeed cooperates not with the FBI alone under memorandums. We have such memorandums with the Romanian anti-corruption directorate, the Central Anti-Corruption Bureau of Poland, and a number of other anti-corruption bodies all around the globe. It’s not about cooperation at all since it is considered pretty common phenomenon... As far as I know as the prosecutor who followed this cooperation, the FBI's activity was reduced to consulting and, in fact, to the actions that they took in the framework of the memorandum signed," Kholodnytskyi said.

Earlier, Prosecutor General Lutsenko accused Sytnyk of NABU’s involvement in unlawful FBI operations in Ukraine.
