Putin Wants to Consult European Integration of Ukraine: "We Might Have Economic Problems"

Russian President Vladimir Putin hopes that the Russian side will be able to bring its concern to the attention of the partners from Ukraine and the EU during the consultations about Kyiv's intentions to sign an association agreement with the EU.

He said this at "The Development of Agriculture in the Russian Federation" meeting in Stavropol on Wednesday, Censor.NET reports citing Interfax.

"We agreed to start these consultations at the expert level," the Russian president said.

However, he expressed hope that the consultations will be started at least from the level of heads of departments and eventually come out on a ministerial level.

"I hope that the contacts will begin and we can meaningfully show what our concern is," the president of the Russian Federation said.

Putin explained what are threats to Russia if Ukraine signs an association agreement with the EU.

"We might have economic problems and we would not be able to maintain a zero rate of import duties. It has nothing to do with politics or with a choice of one or another state - every sovereign nation has the right to choose its own path," the Russian President assured.
