"People's Mayor" of Mariupol Faces up to 15 Years in Prison for Terrorism


The Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) opened criminal proceedings against one of the members of the terrorist organization the Donetsk People's Republic" and "people's mayor" of Mariupol Oleksandr Fomenko.

The press service of the Security Service of Ukraine, Censor.NET reports.

The criminal proceedings were opened under Part 1 Article 258-3 (forming a terrorist group or terrorist organization) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

"The investigation found that Oleksandr Fomenko together with the armed men, members of the gang, led by a man nicknamed "Chechen", took over the administration building of the Department for Combating Organized Crime of Mariupol Office of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine in the Donetsk region" - the SSU reports.

The detained was informed about the suspicion of committing a crime for which he faces a sentence of up to 15 years in prison.

The suspect was detained by the court decision.
